Angelos in a few words
He is a holder of a Ph.D. in the field of Theoretical/Computational Quantum Chemistry from the “Laboratory for Chemistry of Novel Materials” (CMN) of the University of Mons, in Belgium. He obtained his B.Sc in Physics and his M.Sc. in Advanced/Computational Physics from the Physics Department of the University of Crete, in Greece. He has been a PostDoc Researcher for one year at the “Laboratory for Chemistry of Organic Polymers”, hosted by the “Theoretical Chemistry and Modeling Group” of the Institute of Molecular Sciences of the University of Bordeaux, in France.

2015 PhD Thesis: Electronic Structure of Molecularly Doped Two-Dimensional Materials from First Principles
More than half a century ago, some great physicists theoretically proved that two dimensional crystals are unstable due to quantum fluctuations and could not exist. Half a century later, A. Geim and K. Novoselov isolated a few micrometers of perfect single-atom layers from graphite using a scotch tape. This new material, graphene, is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb lattice. This 2D material has many promising properties with prospect in the field of nanoelectronics. However, to turn these attractive properties into useful applications, its electronic structure needs to be properly fine-tuned. One way to achieve this goal is by physisorbtion of molecular dopants. This work aims at a theoretical investigation of the electronic properties of graphene after interaction with organic conjugated molecules through a charge transfer mechanism. -
