Noah in a few words
Designing and creating pieces that have a real-world effect has long been of interest to me. This was reinforced during work experience at NICE & SERIOUS who are a socially conscious creative agency. The placement taught me the different processes a team goes through before completing a project. The experience pushed me to learn about graphic design as a form of communicative expression that was both artistic and commercial.
This year I am on a foundation course at Central Saint Martins specialising in graphic communication. I have developed my scope of focus, through independent research, conceptualising ideas and creating experimental variations for projects. There are no boundaries to exploration, and this creates endless possibilities. This first term has taught me to work on diverse projects and experiment with outcomes; the best learning takes place when we push ourselves to our boundaries. Going forward, I hope to discover how to conceptualise ideas in greater detail and think in a freer creative mindset. I have engaged in many interesting projects, one that stands out, “Interact” was about using interaction as tool for engaging and communicating a message with an audience. This was fascinating, making us think outside of the box to change something we did not like. Another project that excited me was about taking common warning phrases out of their usual context and designing new visual communications to use in new environments. This taught me about the unconscious association of words, colours and shapes which play a big role in all arts, but especially in communication design.
