Skills (25)

Peter in a few words

I am a programmer and technologist operating on the intersection of high-tech and art. With many years of experience in both frontend and backend web development in large scale projects at various companies and simultaniously programming in an artistic context, i have a very diverse set of skills with one foot in technology and "hard" science and another in free roaming artistic research and exploration. This gives me a unique understanding and perspective of both a creative and a coder, a powerful dual-epistemology of sorts.

Due to the nature of this mixed-viewpoint and exploratory edavour i also have already encountered a very diverse set of technologies along the way, so whatever your project requires, i probably have some experience with it. (it's a waaay longer list then listed here.. :)) And since learning new technologies has always been a big part of my process and artistic practice, if my current knowledge is patchy i can probably pick up the rest quickly as we go.

The thing that allowed me to grow the most during my time at Babbel is that I was able to work in two quite different teams. The first 2 years I've spent in a kind of startup-within-the-startup, working on new business initiatives, quickly prototyping new MVPs, but also working on solidifying these into real products (lots of refactoring as you can imagine ;)). Here I've spent most of my time developing new features in a mid-sized application with a Rails back end and a React front end. After the 2nd year due to some restructuring of company priorities I transferred to a team working on user engagement in the core Babbel product, which meant a more structured, lot more by-the-book Scrum environment, much more dependencies and communication. This has taught me a whole set of new lessons, that I'm very happy about.

I was part of the awesome team developing the back-end services behind Fit Predictor, the World's leading apparel fit prediction solution. Technologies I worked with on a daily basis included Ruby/Rails, Python, Amazon Web Services, Docker, PostgreSQL. Some fun stuff I have worked on: ★ A fake online store based on Spree and Rails to be used for QA purposes ★ An ActiveAdmin based internal management application ★ Logr (, a POC for better logging in Ruby ★ Introduction of a data pipeline powered by Luigi, Kafka and later Airflow, Spark and EMR ★ Ruby CLI tools powering this pipeline: and ★ Creating the new Kubernetes-based company infrastructure using Terraform, Ansible and Packer
