Since day one of launching Malt, our mission has always stayed the same: to give everyone the freedom of choice. We’ve done that by creating easy-to-use technology that revamps the way we hire talent – no applications or cover letters, just our intelligent matching system that pairs expert freelancers with global companies. By believing in the power of freelancing before it became accepted, we reimagined how the future of work would look like. Instead of a typically transactional process, freelancing is now seen as a meaningful and competitive lever that enhances connection and collaboration on both sides.
In just a decade, the number of freelancers has doubled and by 2035, we’re betting that the world of work will look very different from today– freelancers will be an integral part of every single team within an organization.
From this year forward, our vision is to fuel the creation of Superteams– mixing permanent employees and talented freelancers that innovate and outperform together. To date, 70,000 companies and 800K freelancers use Malt and start collaborating on projects in as little as 6 days. But finding great freelancers is only half the battle. The other challenge lies in managing countless projects, payments, and paperwork. Although nearly 75% of companies struggle to find the right talent at the right time for their needs, we’re here to spread the joy and share exactly how we’ve helped decrease that percentage in 2024 and what we’ve got planned in 2025 (Source: Manpower Group).
Malt Open: effortlessly manage your entire freelance workforce
As a company you can look for freelancers directly on Malt or migrate your own freelancers with Malt Open. Just provide a freelancer’s details, create a project and voilà – you can manage your entire talent pool in one centralised place. Once external freelancers are invited to the platform, they’ll be able to create their own Malt account and provide a quote for the dedicated project.
Malt Open offers you:
- Easy compliance to make sure freelancers adhere to your company’s legal and contractual requirements
- Way less paperwork with simple invoicing, a single master contract, and a supplier reference
- A magnifying glass with valuable insights into your overall freelance spend with centralised data for better budgeting and decision-making
What’s better? All Malt Open opportunities are now seamlessly connected and viewable within the Application Tracking System (ATS) which means that users can:
- See when a freelancer invitation was sent to them
- Review new quotes and when quotes are accepted
- Check quotes’ project end-dates for recurring projects and an estimated total amount based on total number of days/hours freelancers entered for the project
- Receive an exact number of freelancer activity reports
- Get a clear idea of project length and total project budget for easier project management
Coming in a few short months, the quote interface page will also be updated to make it easier to see quote information at a glance. The updated look will feature a quote overview, the project scope, terms and conditions, and the project budget on the side for quick approval.
Malt connects to over 85 tools
If you’re in the business of sourcing talent whether as a hiring manager or head of procurement, you probably have your fair share of daily tool usage which means that adding another one to your list is the last thing you want to do. That’s why we’re a hassle-free platform, integrating with over 85 vendor management systems (VMS) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools.
Search, hire freelancers, manage projects, centralize payments, and approve quotes all on Malt. The best part? By integrating Malt with your procurement platform, you tap into automatic invoicing which is 4x faster than manually inputting information and reduces invoices errors from 25% to 0%. No more back and forth generating project delays, the automatic invoicing reduces administrative burden for all teams and speeds up the purchasing process.
AI Search - Hire Freelancers in Seconds
Recently we also launched AI Search, a personal staffing assistant for hiring managers which puts a stop to endless scrolling of resumes. In just seconds users can use AI Search to:
- Get guidance on which key skills are most relevant for their project
- Build instant shortlists of candidates
- Create compelling project briefs without writing everything from scratch
- Easily work with the best freelance talent on the planet
Using a powerful mix of small-scale, in-house LLMs and Google Gemini, our AI Search tackles the part of the process that boggles people down the most. The quicker the perfect match is paired, the quicker the project starts, driving efficiency all around and delivering impressive results.

More than just a search platform
Beyond strategic matchmaking powered by AI algorithms, Malt provides end-to-end freelance management that simplifies every touchpoint: from direct communication and lightning-fast contracting to seamless budget tracking and workforce compliance. To maximise the value of an external workforce, teams need a system that goes beyond simple sourcing. Malt provides:
- Full-fledged FMS (freelance management system): get detailed project management capabilities to streamline operations, save time and resources, and achieve better project outcomes
- 360 insights: gain visibility into your entire freelance workforce and spending with real-time analytics and customized spending alerts
- Security and payment compliance: easily access secure and centralized storage of contracts, NDAs, intellectual property, cybersecurity terms, and activity reports—all easily downloadable at any time
Simplified project page
This year we revamped the client project page so users can manage their signed projects effortlessly on Malt. The new interface is simpler, intuitive, and task-oriented. With detailed action cards, users are provided with clear guidance on what to do (e.g., add a PO number). A new widget also helps clients to monitor both the remaining budget and the invoiced amount for recurring projects. Lastly for timesheet reviews, users can approve them directly from the client project page and even check in on freelancer activity trackers.
ATS
This year we also redesigned the Application Tracking System to give a holistic overview of profiles, applications and their status. With friendly reminders throughout the user journey, users know exactly which step to take next when hiring freelancers on Malt. The collaborative candidate assessment feature lets team members leave feedback and comments about potential candidates so that they're aligned on who’s the best person for the job.
But that’s not all, users can also:
- Check candidate profiles, reviews, and rates
- Approve or decline a freelancer application in just one click
- Contact freelancers directly
- Share assessments between hiring managers and teams
- Schedule interviews
- Receive hands-on support from Malt project partners to assist with complex projects
Easy expense tracking
Every two weeks client users receive an email from Malt to remind them of pending freelancer project expenses that require approval. Now, clients can validate expenses by batch and generate one single invoice for each freelancer project. That way, instead of requesting individual purchase orders for each project, users can just download a detailed summary with everything listed in one place. Once expenses are confirmed, the invoice (including receipts) will be sent to respective accounting teams. Talk about a time saver!
Automatic payments from client wallets
Recently we introduced a new feature that takes away the stress of remembering when to pay each freelancer for each project. With automatic payments client users will never miss a payment and freelancers will get paid out as soon as their project is approved. Worry less with Malt, we’ve got you covered.
