This Malt study, carried out in collaboration with IPSE, The Self-Employed Association, explores the expertise and strategic impact of senior professionals. It examines their motivations, key skills and the value they bring to organisations.
The report is based on an online survey of 821 senior freelancers, as well as qualitative interviews with HR directors from major companies and senior consultants. It also draws on the insights from Malt’s dataset of 43,000 freelancers aged 50+.
Malt Trends Seniors is aimed at managers and HR leaders, as well as senior professionals themselves. It offers practical insights to help organisations makethe most of senior freelance expertise and encourage greater use of these often under-recognised skill sets.
With the state pension age rising and 14.6 million working-age people undersaving for retirement, more professionals in their fifties and sixties are extending their working lives. Freelancing offers them flexibility, control and the chance to stay active on their own terms - a trend now reshaping the UK labour market.
