Candice Cholerton

I have been freelancing for over ten years. I am based from my home studio in Surrey, where I work on a MacBook Pro and am proficient with the Adobe Suite and Creative Cloud. As a freelancer I liaise with all my clients, taking briefs, finding creative solutions for them (in many shapes and forms), and working directly with printers, copywriters and web developers. As a solution provider I boast a wealth of experience across all media from brand identity and positioning, print and magazines, websites and digital through to environment branding and everything in between. I believe in collaborative working, developing strong (and fun) working relationships, to properly understand a clients' needs, wants and objectives. I am flexible and adaptable in my approach as every business, brief and budget is unique.

Never one to miss a deadline, I work effectively and quickly to get things done. I am creatively charged, highly passionate and love to produce thought-based, beautiful and clever design.

In 2017 I came up with an idea for a small business, which I started with a friend (she was involved only for 2 years). It was creating educational activities for children that encouraged learning through play - getting children engaged in a fun, screen-free way, helping them to develop key motor skills. As a small busines owner you wear all the hats! I designed and illustrated all the products, did the photo shoots (product and campaigns), managed the Etsy and Shopify stores, managed all social feeds and wrote the copy and content. I worked with a freelance SEO and web specialist to help with traffic and Google adverts. While running the company I managed to get a large engaged social following, set up a wholesaler in Australia, won multiple awards and got the business on the BBC, on a TV show called "The Customer is Always Right" (where we won our episode). When Covid hit, I made the decision to move the business from a print and distribution company to a cabin in my garden. Here I set up a production line, so I could continue selling throughout the lock downs and reduce my costs. It was extrememly busy during this period due to the homeschooling we all faced.

It was an exciting chapter and I learned a huge amount during this time, while also freelancing alongside running My Busy Bots.

I was freelancing for various agencies in Durban. I worked with three agencies helping with overflow work and on large projects and pitches. At Canway I worked on various product ranges, helping develop packaging designs for their multiple skincare ranges. I worked mainly with Chilli Source, both as a designer and a studio manager, helping to set up work procedures, filing systems and training up junior designers. I attended client meetings, taking briefs and managed projects from start to finish. I worked on mood-boards for campaigns and art directed photo shoots, also arranging shoot locations, models and props.
