Designing CAD models and drawings for bespoke parts and delivering DCRs (Design Change Requests) for the company's current machines, equipment and accessories. Designing Customer Engineered parts (CEs) for a variety of tasks in vacuum and out of vacuum. Some key Points:
-Worked on Existing products: Supra, Nova, Ultra, Supra Plus, Surface Science Station etc.
-Contributed significantly to an unreleased product in Design/Pre-production stage in R&D department
-Design original Customer engineered products/accessories. Since working at Kratos Analytical, I have been given the opportunity to learn how to use the following programs: Anita, Creo 3.0, Creo 5.0 & DDM (Design Data Manager) as well as Creo Simulate. Learning how to use Creo was a matter of transferring my Solidworks skills through both self and peer-to-peer learning. Since being at Kratos my CAD skills and drawing quality have been fine-tuned as I have been involved in designing complex parts and assemblies for some of the company's products such as the Supra X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy Surface Analysis Machine as well as some of its more bespoke accessories such as the Fracture Stage. I have been learning extensively about the companies processes as well as learning how to investigate queries, problems and misunderstandings between departments. I have also had the opportunity to work on some of the most key parts at the heart of the newest unreleased product. The area a large amount of my work was focused on was the X-ray gun for our unreleased product, CEs, and DCRs. I have been working in the Research and Development department head by a Japanese manager from Kratos parent company Shimazdu.
  • CAVENDISH NUCLEAR
    Mechanical Engineer Work Experience
    January 2016 - January 2016
    Irlam, Manchester, UK
During my short Work experience at Cavendish I was involved in doing trials on various different materials on a rig which was to mimic a nuclear plant already in operation. The operation would see how different materials would fall down a rig out of a tipper, down a vibrating slide, through a chute & then into a container. The reason for the tests were because there is a large amount of radioactive waste being stored in vaults which needs to be moved and processed, however the engineers weren't quite sure of the composition of the vaults. They know there will likely be materials Clinoptildite, Amberlite and Cellite with a sludge composing of Aluminium oxide, Fe(III)Oxide, Sand & Water in the vaults mixed in with FED(Fuel Element Debris). As well as this; things like gloves, buckets, shoes etc were expected. Due to the flooding of the vaults several years ago, the waste could be anywhere from very wet, to dry. Thus we did tests varying, wetness, FED content, material content, with & without a vibration motor at different weights of the simulant waste, to see if the existing plant design in place could was capable of sorting through & processing this waste.
