About Neil

Fractional CPO & Chief of Staff | Transformation in founder-led, high-growth businesses

I help founders and CEOs build the people function and operating rhythm a scaling company actually needs, without carrying the cost of a full-time C-suite hire before the business is ready for one.

Over 30+ years I've held CPO and Chief of Staff-level roles across Nokia, Amazon, SoundCloud, Moda Operandi and Dronamics, which means I've done this at enterprise scale and in the weeds of an early-stage scale-up, and I know the two require completely different things.

Most of my best work has been in founder-led environments going through the hard transitions: rapid headcount growth, post-raise restructuring, cross-border expansion, and the 50-to-250-person stretch where a company either builds real operating foundations or starts to break.

What I actually do sits across two connected roles:

As a fractional Chief People Officer, I own the people agenda end to end: org design, leadership capability, culture, compensation, and the hiring systems a growing team needs. with the same accountability as a permanent CPO, at a fraction of the commitment.
As a Chief of Staff / transformation lead, I work alongside the founder on the operating layer: turning strategy into a rhythm the leadership team can actually run, unblocking the things that stall growth, and holding the program together when everything is moving at once.

I'm a co-founder of Athanor Opus, a boutique transformation advisory, and co-host of the Tales from the Edge podcast, where I talk to leaders about the parts of scaling that don't make the case studies.

Based in the Brighton/London area, working with clients across the UK and Europe. Engagements typically run 1–3 days a week.

Best fit if you're: a founder or CEO at Seed to Series B, feeling the strain of growth on your team and operating model, and you need senior leadership at the moments that matter.
