Our efforts have been focused on four core objectives:
Mobile app enhancements: We've prioritized optimizing our mobile app to seamlessly integrate into your freelance workflow, allowing you to manage your projects, communicate with clients, and receive payments on the go.
Platform enhancements: We've continuously refined the Malt platform to provide a more intuitive, user-friendly experience, ensuring your overall satisfaction.
Strategize for success: We've launched Malt Strategy, a dedicated community for experienced management consultants and interim managers. This initiative aims to foster growth and success for these specialized professionals.
Empowering growth: We've relentlessly pursued initiatives that empower our freelancers, providing tools and resources to grow their businesses, secure higher-paying projects, and enhance their overall freelance experience.
Working on the mobile app was a top priority for the product team in 2023. With an increase in usage over the past year, Malt’s app was in need of enhancements and modifications for freelancers to have the best experience possible. The app was also launched in new countries such as the UK, Nordic countries, and the United Arab Emirates. While available for Malt freelancers, the app will also be available for Malt Strategy consultants in early 2024, but more about that soon!
New profile page: The new profile page in the mobile app provides a streamlined and user-friendly experience by consolidating all profile-related content and entry points into a single, easily accessible location.
Profile completion: We have introduced several enhancements to encourage freelancers to complete their profiles in full. These changes include a reorganized dashboard and a redesigned profile completion checklist. These initiatives aim to empower freelancers to showcase their skills and expertise effectively. Our algorithms use this information to match freelancers with client projects. By having a complete profile, freelancers increase their chances of securing new projects on the Malt platform. Dynamic dashboard: We have implemented a dynamic dashboard feature to simplify the user experience for freelancers at different stages of their project lifecycle. The dashboard prioritizes the most relevant information and actions based on the freelancer's current phase: registration, application, or project execution.
Profile sharing: We have introduced a new feature that allows freelancers to suggest other suitable freelancers to clients for projects they decline. This aims to enhance the platform's ability to secure projects for freelancers, foster collaboration within the freelancer network, and potentially expand the feature to the desktop version.
While improvements on the app and the launch of Malt Strategy kept us pretty busy in 2023, quite a few changes were made to the desktop version as well! This includes launching a new navigation bar to create a better navigation experience, ensuring that the freelancer focuses on core tasks in one click, rebranding the project list, and revamping the profile page.
Upon acquiring COMATCH, we dedicated our efforts to developing a dedicated consulting section within the Malt platform. Our aim was to ensure that Malt Strategy consultants enjoy the same benefits as our existing freelance community, including a comprehensive platform for crafting personalized proposals, managing projects efficiently, and handling invoicing seamlessly.

The Business Referral Program: The Business Referral Program was revamped to give freelancers the best chances possible. In a few words, the Program is designed to help freelancers earn additional income by referring project opportunities to Malt. It's a simple and effective way to reinforce your client relationship and contribute to the freelance community. By recommending Malt as a reliable source for project fulfillment, you demonstrate your commitment to finding solutions for your clients' needs. Second, you will earn 5% of the assignment cost for each project you refer to Malt, which is a significant source of additional income. Not bad, right? Ready to unlock extra income? Availability: Updated availability information is one of the key elements in boosting a freelancer's visibility in the search results. We've made updating availability via email or a pop-up reminder on the platform even easier.
New compliance funnel for umbrella companies: We have streamlined the steps to keep business documents up to date on Malt in order to ensure compliance and allow freelancers to be paid on time. This step has been simplified even further for freelancers who work for umbrella companies.
Short project automatic approval: It can be frustrating chasing down clients to approve a project so that you can get paid. That's why all short-term projects are now automatically approved after 15 days.
New currencies: As Malt launches in new countries, new currencies become available as well. Payments in pounds (£) or dollars ($) are now possible on Malt! And all that without fees.
