Successfully implemented AWS Savings Plans and optimised infrastructure to reduce overall cloud costs by over £100,000 in the first year of implementation.

• Deployed self-hosted Github runners to automate the build and deployment of the platform while maintaining internal network accessibility.

• Established and led the internal platform engineering function to simplify the developer experience and take ownership of internal infrastructure away from the development teams.

• Created modular Github Actions to streamline workflows for testing applications and infrastructure.

• Implemented AWS Nuke to automatically destroy unmanaged infrastructure on a weekly basis, reducing the risk of unauthorised infrastructure being left running.

• Conducted weekly sprint planning meetings to enable the team to plan their work and provide visibility to the wider organisation.

• Developed standardised platform documentation to facilitate the onboarding of new team members and knowledge sharing across the organisation.

• Implemented S3 Lifecycle policies to automate the deletion of old data from S3 buckets and reduce overall storage costs.

My current role within the RBS Cloud Services area supports with the standing up and maintaining of the internal PaaS Cloud Foundry offering. My primary role entails providing business as usual support to the platform whilst adding additional feature enhancements to meet the needs of our customers. Some of the experience/knowledge I have gained whilst working within this role is listed below:

• Delivering resiliency/feature enhancements to the PAAS Infrastructure with a focus on automation whenever possible to create simple predictable actions that can be used within CI/CD tooling.

• Performing multiple production platform upgrades during the working day, utilising automation to ensure no application downtime to the platform consumers.

• Providing out of hours support for development teams when deploying/ running on the Cloud Foundry platform.

• Writing out custom scripts to be used within automated pipelines to support enhancements on the platform.

• Operating within a version-controlled code environment, where all infrastructure is deployed as code. (GIT , Bitbucket , Terraform)

• Supporting technology stacks for traditional on-premise stacks and within Public Cloud infrastructure (AWS)

• Written technical troubleshooting knowledge articles for supporting major components of the platform to improve the process when troubleshooting incidents on the platform and this in turn has aided in our ability to respond quickly to issues that arise.
