Your client works on Malt and has asked you to work via Malt for your next project. This article is for you!

What is Malt?

Malt was created in 2013 by freelancers for freelancers. Our goal is to provide an array of effective digital solutions that allow freelancers and clients to find each other and work together throughout a project’s duration - from the initial proposal all the way to the end of the project. With Malt, freelancers get paid within 10 business days of project completion.

Like many other companies, your client has chosen to use Malt to simplify and monitor all their projects with freelancers safely and securely in one place. It also means you can benefit from Malt for this assignment and hopefully following projects. Welcome to Malt!

What do you have to do to work with a client on Malt?

Step 1: Create your account

Creating your account on Malt is a mandatory first step to being able to work with your client. You will find the link to get started here. Even though it is not mandatory, you can also take a look at this checklist to make sure you make the most out of Malt by optimising your profile.

Once completed, your profile will automatically be visible on Malt. Should you want to hide your profile, you can hide the daily rate of your profile. Please note, that by removing your profile from the search, you will get fewer opportunities. To stop receiving opportunities, you can declare yourself unavailable by choosing a date more than two months away.

Step 2: Uploading your legal documents

Malt is responsible for making sure that both clients and freelancers are verified to work together. If freelancers wish to receive funds, it is mandatory that they share certain documents which allow us to verify that they are in good legal standing. This protects you from laws concerning due diligence on undeclared work. To respect this law, we collect all documents relative to the freelancer's professional status.

It's important to note that you may start working on Malt without having those documents fully checked. However, we will need this information to send a payment your way. You may choose “In the process of registration” if you are currently in the process of getting your status updated. Our partners can also assist you if need be.

Step 3: Send your quote to your client

Once your account is set up, go to the “messages” tab. Here, you should find a conversation that has already been started with your client or you should have received an email with a link to create your profile (if not, please contact us here). You will need to send your quote directly through Malt so your client can validate your proposal and you may then start working together. Even though you have already worked with your client outside of Malt, we do encourage freelancers to start working with their client only once the quote has been approved. Don’t forget to detail your job in your quote proposal (time frame, deliverables, etc.).

Step 4: Keep going!

Your account is now set up and you will also be able to receive new opportunities via Malt. Find out more about this here.

Good to know: You can share new business opportunities to give another freelancer a chance to get an opportunity their way and get rewarded for it by joining our Business Referral Program.
